Edwin Smulders was born in Eindhoven on the 24th of August, 1968.
He was scouted by Jan Reker of PSV when he had played with the youthteam of Dommelen (now in the 4th class KNVB) and has been in all youth selections up till the national youth and C-team in 7,5 years. In this period he often went with his father who had to work, to watch his favorite players of PSV and photograph them for fun.
When in 1986 his father broke his arm, he was picked up from his intern-adress to help him. His first "job" was to make a weddingreport of Joop van den End and a day later, the Televizier-ring. What would have been his job for 6, 7 weeks has been enlengthed until now.

After that, Edwin Smulders has had a lot of success by making pictures a lot of people of the Dutch royal family with their new girlfriends.
He made the first pictures of Prince Willem Alexander with Yolanda Adriaans and later Emily Bremers. A few years later he makes the first pictures of Maxima and Prince Willem Alexander in the coldness of New York. To make this picture he had to travel often. Furthermore he also made the first pictures of Prince Constantijn with Princess Laurentien, Prince Friso with Mabel Wisse Smit, Prince Maurtis with Princess Marilene, Prince Bernhard Jr. with Annette Sekreve, Ruud Gullit with Estelle Cruyff and many more.

Edwin lives together with Anouk Voorveld; they are getting married in 2004.
